Classical guitars

One of Lorenzo Frignani's main activities is the production and restoration of classical guitars. He only produces concert guitars which are constructed according to his own personal design models. Study guitars are not built in his workshop.

The concert guitars produced are the fruit of years of personal research. Indeed, some have been awarded prizes in both national and international competitions (e.g. 1st prize in the National Luthery Competition of Bagnacavallo di Romagna in 1995; 1st prize in the International Guitar Competition of Baveno also held in 1995, etc.).

Guitars are constructed in Indian or Brazilian Rosewood, Jacaranda or Maple with the harmonic table in either spruce or cedar. The neck of the instrument is usually produced in a light Spanish Cedar or mahogany and the fingerboard in ebony.

In exceptional circumstances, some guitars which are classified as "collector's items" or "collection guitars" are built when particularly rare types of wood can be sourced. The decoration of these instruments is also more elaborate than of the other instruments produced.

Every instrument constructed in Lorenzo Frignani's workshop is built using only the highest quality seasoned woods. In addition to the traditional 6-string guitars, models with seven, eight and ten strings can also be produced. Furthermore, even eleven-string guitars can be produced which may be tuned in the same way as the baroque lute. This means that original baroque music may be read and played without any musical transcription being necessary.

Lorenzo Frignani's workshop can also construct amplified classical guitars on request.

Guitars may be varnished in the traditional way using a shellac French polish or alternatively, on request, using polyurethane or nitrocellulose varnishes.

All completed instruments are supplied with a hard case.

Frignani's workshop also specialises in both the historic and functional restoration of antique guitars and has worked on models of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Of these, instruments produced by the great masters such as Garcia, Gomez Ramirez, Gallinotti, Raponi, Kohno, José Ramirez, etc. have been lovingly restored.
