Lorenzo Frignani Liutaio

Gennaro Fabricatore

Surely one of the most important luthiers working in Naples between the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries,Gennaro was a publisher as well as a constructor of guitars and other curious items. From the labels on his production pieces we can deduce how many times he changed the location of his workshop as follows:

From 1773 to1793 at no. 37 Strada S. Giacomo
From 1802 to 1808 at no. 26 Strada S. Giacomo
From 1808 to 1815 back to no. 37 Strada S. Giacomo
From 1815 to 1830 at no. 42 Strada S. Giacomo
From 1830 onwards at Strada Toledo no. 297

It is also interesting to note that the guitars produced are often similar but never exactly the same; the logical conclusion is therefore that the construction of the guitars was carried out without the use of a classical 'form' or 'model', or perhaps with the use of a 'half model'.
